Cunningham & Mears has selected Oklahoma City University School of Law student Jamie Campbell for its 2019 scholarship winner.
— Cunningham & Mears is proud to announce that Jamie Campbell is the 2019 recipient of the Cunningham & Mears Academic Scholarship. This is the inaugural year of the annual scholarship, and Jamie Campbell is the first winner.
“She is an extraordinary young person, and an ideal candidate for this award,” said firm co-founder Ryan Cunningham. “When we started this scholarship fund, it was to help students who wanted to make a difference, and who needed an extra leg up to do it. Ms. Campbell is academically gifted and driven to succeed, and we are thrilled that we can help her.”
Jamie Campbell is a rising 2L student at the Oklahoma City University School of Law. Before attending law school, she worked as a paralegal. Ms. Campbell moved halfway across the country to attend OCU Law, where she hopes to work with the Oklahoma Innocence Project.
Ms. Campbell told the firm that the Innocence Project inspired her to study law, and to effect changes in the criminal justice system. Because her husband is an active duty U.S. Marine, she spent most of her adult life moving, which made choosing the right law school more challenging. When she learned that OKIP was housed at Oklahoma City University School of Law, she knew she had found the right school for her. She is an active member of the Fighting for Innocence Through Exoneration (F.I.T.E.) Club, and plans to pursue work in the area of post-conviction appeals. She also hopes to work with legislators to change the criminal justice system, in her words, “to enact new laws that will create a fairer justice system than the one that is currently in place.”
